FluMarTurb: Fluid dynamics of turbine machinery for marine energy systems with low environmental impact

Scope: Shipbuilding and marine technologies

Duration: September 2015 - December 2016

Fluid dynamics of marine turbines, related to their increasing use and development in the naval field and in response to market demand for lower weight for the same power, greater efficiency, and reduced environmental impact. The research will follow three main routes:

  • Fluid dynamics of compact steam turbines for ship propulsion systems with low environmental impact
  • Fluid dynamics of centrifugal pumps for high performance and low environmental impact
  • Development of software for CFD analysis of seawater feed tanks and channels to pumping stations, and optimizing the geometry of pump inlet cells
